Ferguson to avenge Porto after Villa thriller

Man United storms back to the Premier's top after defeating Aston Villa 3-2 and is now motivated by revenge as it faces Portugal's Porto.

United's manager Sir Alex Ferguson is now bent on avenging a 2004 defeat by Porto in Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final first leg. The Portuguese club, then managed by Jose Mourinho, dumped United with a 2-1 home win and a 1-1 draw in the return.

United, now unbeaten on home soil in 19 European games, will be boosted by the return of Wayne Rooney, Scholes and Nemanja Vidic, after the trio missed the Villa match through suspension. Ferguson commenting on the upcoming game with Porto said it is a 'chance to resolve some unfinished business'.

A substantial victory against Porto would put United in pole position going into the second leg at the Dragao Stadium next week, as Porto has finished top of its group before knocking out Atletico Madrid on away goals.

The United manager is also interested in stirring up trouble for his closest challengers for the Premier League title, and in response to Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez's query over whether United can handle the pressure after Liverpool beat Fulham 1-0 on Saturday, Ferguson said, "I think whoever wins between Liverpool and Chelsea in the Champions League this week will be our biggest threat because of the effect it will have on them."

After Sunday's matches in the English Premier League, Manchester United stands with 68 points, Liverpool 67 and Chelsea 64. Fulham is down 9th with 40 points.
